Mom’s Tip of the Week 33
Did you know ... ?
At 33 weeks pregnant, you need extra protein. In the second half of your pregnancy, you need 71 grams of protein per day—that’s 25 grams more than you needed before you conceived. Protein is good for cell growth, blood production, and energy. Some good sources: eggs, fish, lean meat, and tofu.
Your Baby at 33 Weeks Pregnant
What’s Happening in There
- Your baby weighs about 4 ½ pounds when you’re 33 weeks pregnant , and he measures up to 19 inches in length.
- He’s running out of room. The amniotic fluid in your uterus is at full capacity, so as he grows and the fluid level drops, you might feel your baby’s kicks more firmly. There’s just not as much cushion in there anymore.
- He’s shoring up his immune system. Your little one is absorbing antibodies from your body as his immune system develops. This will help him fend off germs after birth.
- He’s getting ready for his first cry. Your baby’s lungs continue to mature in anticipation of his first breath.
- He’s adding more baby fat. It will provide him with protection and warmth.
Baby Brain Waves
Your Baby’s Brain Is Developing
Your baby’s brain is in overdrive. In fact, your baby at 33 weeks will add an extra half inch to his head circumference to accommodate his growing brain! Billions of neurons are at work so your baby can learn about his surroundings—your uterus—through his developing senses: touch, feel, taste, smell, and hear.
