Did you know ... ?
Your baby is graduating. Her embryonic stem cells have multiplied and changed into all of the various cells needed to form her internal and external body structures. This will be the last week she’s technically called an embryo; from this point on, she will be known as a fetus. It’s important to keep eating healthfully and taking a prenatal vitamin with docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) to nurture the continuing development of your baby’s bones, brain, vision, and more.

What’s Happening in There
- Your baby measures around between one and one and a half inches this week. In the past eight weeks, she has gone from one cell to almost 1 billion cells, and now that you’re 10 weeks pregnant she has more than 90 percent of the anatomical structures that adults have.
- Her face is taking on character. Your baby’s head is becoming rounder, and her neck is growly rapidly. Her facial features have become distinct, with her outer ears taking shape. Your baby can shut her eyes this week—and will keep them closed for protection until around 26 weeks. Even tiny tooth buds are starting to form.
- Her limbs are maturing, too. The small grooves in your baby’s legs are transforming into knees and ankles. Her fingers and toes have separated into individual digits, and her tail has completely disappeared.
- All her vital organs have formed. And they are now working together in her tiny body. Your little one’s kidneys are producing urine effectively; her stomach is producing digestive juices. If you’re having a boy, his testes are already producing the male hormone testosterone.

Your Baby’s Brain Is Developing
At 10 weeks pregnant, your baby’s brain is highly developed, and it makes up an amazing 43 percent of her weight! This week a very important control center, the hypothalamus, begins to form. The hypothalamus controls many body systems, from temperature regulation to heart rate.

The solution: When aiming for a half hour of daily exercise (with your doctor’s approval), consider adding yoga to the mix. It can help you sleep better, ease pregnancy-related symptoms, and even prepare you for better breathing during labor.
