How Much Do We Need?


DHA intakes in pregnant Canadian women average only 80 mg/day. Experts in lipid nutrition recommend at least 200 mg of DHA a day for pregnant and breastfeeding women.

  • Sardines
  • Mackerel
  • Herring
  • DHA-enriched foods such as milk, eggs

Eating Well with Canada's Food Guide recommends that Canadians eat at least 2 Food Guide servings (of 75 g or 2 ½ oz each) of fish a week.* *Health Canada provides advice for limiting exposure to mercury from certain types of fish.
