Cow’s milk is a good source of calcium, Vitamin D and protein, but it doesn’t provide the same nutrition as breastfeeding or formula feeding. It’s low in iron, which is essential for physical and mental growth, and other nutrients key to healthy development.

To ensure balanced toddler nutrition, your child needs to eat a wide variety of nutritious toddler foods from each of the four Canada’s Food Guide food groups (fruit and vegetables, grain products, milk and alternatives, meat and alternatives). So, until your child has made the transition to table food, cow’s milk simply won’t fill all the gaps.
