Pain and Fever Medication

When fever and pain cause discomfort in your baby, doctors may recommend fast-acting medications such as Tempra. And, like children, Tempra comes in all shapes and sizes. From baby's first fever, to inoculation discomfort, and through all of life's growing pains, you can trust the relief of Tempra.

The Canadian Paediatric Society recommends that a medication, such as acetaminiphen-based Tempra, can be used to relieve your child's mild pain and fevers. Talk to your baby's doctor if you have any concerns about your baby's health.

Tempra Drops

For fast, effective relief of your baby's fever and pain caused by immunization, teething, earache, colds or flus. Tempra Drops are alcohol, sugar and ASA free.

Tempra Drops should be given 1 hour before an immunization shot and then 4 hours later if fever/irritation is present.

Age of use: Birth to 3 years

Tempra Syrup

As your child grows, Tempra Syrup effectively fights pain or fever caused by immunization, earache, colds or flu. Tempra Syrup comes in appropriate doses for growing, active kids. It is good tasting, easy to swallow and alcohol and ASA free.

Syrup Available In:
Regular Strength – Cherry flavour
Age of Use: 2 to 6 years

Double Strength – Cherry and dye-free banana flavours
Age of Use: 4 to 10 years

If you can't afford Tempra, financial assistance may be available through provincial drug benefits programs.  Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you qualify for BC Pharmacare, Alberta Health and Wellness, the Ontario Drug Benefits Program, the Regie de l’assurance Maladie du Quebec, and the Non-Insured Health Benefits (First Nations) programs.

Tempra® Dosage Chart

Dosage: Administer single dose orally, every 4 hours, according to the weights listed above.
Do not exceed more than 5 doses daily for a maximum of 5 days.

*These doses are based on weight, not age, and offer more specific doses than in the general instructions on label/carton.

TEMPRA: Consult a doctor if the underlying condition requires continued use for more than 5 days. It is hazardous to exceed the maximum recommended dose unless advised by a doctor.

SIGNIFICANT INCOMPATIBILITIES/DRUG INTERACTIONS: A doctor or pharmacist should be consulted prior to use in case of allergy to acetaminophen , chronic alcoholism, serious kidney or liver disease and intake of other medications containing acetaminophen and salicylates.

SIDE EFFECTS: Allergic reactions such as rash or itching.

OVERDOSE:  In the case of an overdose, even if there are no symptoms, contact your Poison Control Centre or physician at once. Signs of overdose are nausea or vomiting, increase in sweating, diarrhea, loss of appetite, stomach cramps and pain (onset may be delayed 24 hours after intake).  Medical attention is critical, even in the absence of symptoms.
