For Babies
Enfamil® D-Vi-Sol®
D-Vi-Sol® drops provide breastfed infants with vitamin D, which plays an important role in the normal development and maintenance of bones and teeth.
- For all full term breast fed infants.
- Helps to prevent vitamin D deficiency.
- The most widely used vitamin D supplement for babies in Canada.
- Health Authorities agree: breastfed babies should receive a vitamin D supplement right from birth.
Canadian Recommendations:
- The Canadian Paediatric Society, Dietitians of Canada and Health Canada recommend that all healthy term breastfed babies receive a daily vitamin D supplement of 400 IU.
- Health Canada further recommends that babies get daily vitamin D supplements at birth until they are 1 year old or until the baby’s diet provides at least 400 IU of vitamin D from other dietary sources
- Babies in northern communities (north of 55o, which is about the level of Edmonton) or babies living between the 40th and 55th parallel who have other risk factors (such as dark skin) should get 800 IU per day between October and April, when there is less sunlight.
Enfamil D-Vi-Sol is Kosher dairy.
D-Vi-Sol may be available through provincial drug benefits programs. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you qualify for the Alberta Health and Wellness, the Regie de l’assurance Maladie du Quebec or the Non-Insured Health Benefits (First Nations) programs.
