Toddler Sized Portions

Younger toddlers 1-2 years of age tend to eat small portions.  Serve small nutritious meals and snacks throughout the day.  To ensure a balanced diet, follow Canada’s Food Guide.  Serve your younger toddler a variety of foods from the 4 food groups, however, portion sizes may be smaller.  Here are some examples of toddler sized portions.

Grain Products Vegetables and Fruit Milk Products Meat and Alternatives
½ slice of bread
75 mL (1/3 cup) of hot or cold cereal
4 soda crackers
50 mL (1/4 cup) pasta or rice
½ medium size vegetable or fruit
50 mL (1/4 cup) fresh, frozen or canned vegetable or fruit
50 mL (1/4 cup) juice
1 oz (30 g) cheese
75 g (1/3 cup) yogurt
125 mL (1/2 cup) whole milk
1 oz (30 g) meat, fish or poultry
1 egg
50 mL (1/4 cup) beans
50 g (1/4 cup) tofu
