Baby Diarrhea
Diarrhea is defined as frequent stools that are watery and smelly, or that contain mucus. Other symptoms may include fever or weight loss. The most common cause of diarrhea is infection from a virus or bacteria. Diarrhea can be serious for an infant. So it's important to tell your baby's doctor if you suspect your baby has it.
Diarrhea can also be a sign that your baby is having difficulty digesting lactose, the carbohydrate found in most milk-based formulas. Or he might be allergic to the cow's milk protein in his formula. Talk to your baby's doctor. If the doctor determines that your baby's diarrhea is caused by a lactose problem, he may recommend a milk-based, lactose-free, formula like Enfamil® Lactose Free A+®. If the doctor thinks that the diarrhea is due to a cow's milk protein allergy, he may recommend Nutramigen® A+®, a hypoallergenic formula for the dietary management of cow's milk protein allergy.
