All nutrients are important, but there are some nutrients you may want to pay particular attention to and make sure your toddler is getting enough.
What Does It Do?
Fat supplies energy and aids in the absorption of fat soluble vitamins.
How Much Do They Need?
Toddlers 1-3 yrs 30-40% of total calories should be fats.
Where Can They Get It?
Whole milk is recommended for toddlers until the age of 2. Nutritious foods that contain fat (such as full-fat yogurt and cheese) should not be restricted for toddlers.
However, after 2 years of age, you should transition your toddler towards lower fat milks (skim, 1%, 2%) or milk alternatives. Eating Well with Canada’s Food Guide recommends offering toddlers a variety of nutritious foods, including a small amount of unsaturated fat every day.
