Our commitment to the environment
Mead Johnson Now Using Green Technology to Power Facility
Mead Johnson announced today that we are now using landfill gas to meet a significant portion of our energy needs a the company’s manufacturing facility in Evansville, Indiana. The project began over a year ago with the goal of protecting the environment and lowering our energy costs. Our idea was to capture the gas being formed at a local landfill and use it to meet our energy needs. The plan became a reality today when we officially recognized the completion of the landfill renewable energy project. The project is the first of its kind for Mead Johnson and for the city of Evansville.
The project has an estimated capacity to reduce net carbon dioxide greenhouse gas emissions by 24,000 metric tons per year. Annual environmental benefits of this reduction are equivalent to removing greenhouse gas emissions from 4,400 passenger vehicles, the carbon dioxide emissions from burning 125 railcars of coal, or the carbon absorbed by 5,500 acres of pine forests. Emission reductions were estimated using the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Greenhouse Gas Equivalencies Calculator.
